EU Considers Burutu Port as Hub for New Sea Link to Niger Delta

The European Union has earmarked Burutu Port in Delta State as a prospective international maritime hub for a planned Sea Link project. The initiative aims to connect Lagos State, the Niger Delta, and communities along the River Niger, creating a continuous waterway for trade and transport. The proposal was announced by the EU delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, led by Massimo De Luca, during a visit to the region. While the project remains in the planning phase, the selection of Burutu signals a strategic push to integrate Nigeria’s inland waterways with its coastal ports, potentially boosting regional commerce and infrastructure development.
