Meta Launches ‘Your Algorithm’ on Facebook, Letting Users Directly Control Feed Topics
WHY IT MATTERS
By letting users directly influence the algorithm, Meta enhances transparency and user agency, potentially improving engagement and reducing unwanted content while affecting how advertisers target audiences.
What happened
Meta has rolled out its new ‘Your Algorithm’ feature on Facebook, giving users the ability to add and manage the topics they want to see in their News Feed and Reels. The tool works by letting users click ‘interested’ or ‘not interested’ on individual posts or from the three‑dot menu, and the feed updates in real time.
The feature mirrors similar options that were introduced earlier this year on Instagram and on Threads. Users can now shape the algorithm’s recommendations more precisely, with the system responding immediately to changes in their topic preferences.
Meta says the changes aim to make the feed feel more personalized and responsive.
