FCC to Issue Robocall Scorecard for Phone Providers
WHY IT MATTERS
The scorecard will let consumers choose carriers based on proven spam‑blocking performance, forcing providers to improve their defenses to avoid higher risk ratings.
What happened
The Federal Communications Commission announced plans to launch a robocall mitigation scorecard that will evaluate telephone companies on their ability to block illegal spam calls. The scorecard will compile call‑blocking statistics, customer complaint data, and enforcement actions.
Providers could receive numeric ratings, letter grades, or be classified as low, medium, or high risk. The FCC Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau said the tool will give consumers a clear assessment of each provider’s performance and motivate carriers to strengthen their robocall defenses.
The scorecard is expected to be released later this year and will become a public resource for comparing service providers.
