Fire at Neryungri Power Plant Halts Operations, Heating Supply in Yakutia

A fire broke out on September 22 at the Neryungri Power Plant in Yakutia, damaging a transformer substation for unit 1 and a turbine in the machine room. The plant has shut down, and one worker suffered smoke inhalation. The Yakutia government says the outage has not cut electricity supply, as the region now draws power from the unified energy system. However, heating from the plant is disrupted; apartment temperatures are still acceptable but have fallen, and the authorities plan to set up an additional heat‑generation scheme. School schedules may be adjusted if needed. The plant, the largest in southern Yakutia, supplies electricity and heat to Neryungri, Serebryany Bor, and nearby industrial sites. A large volume of repair work is required, and restoring stable heat supply is the main priority.
