New Zealand and Indonesia Strengthen Ties Through Foreign Minister Visit

Foreign Ministers Winston Peters of New Zealand and Sugiono of Indonesia held productive talks in Auckland, focusing on areas like food security and renewable energy. The ministers reviewed the New Zealand-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership and its Plan of Action, highlighting progress towards a NZ$6 billion two-way trade goal by 2029. They also discussed cooperation in agriculture, education, and defence, as well as regional and global developments. New Zealand views Indonesia as a long-term partner, with ambitions to grow their relationship as they approach 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2028. A Joint Statement was released outlining the discussions and agreed next steps. Minister Sugiono will depart New Zealand tomorrow.
