By giving parents free, evidence‑based guidance early in a child’s life, Tākai supports healthier development and reduces risk of harm, aligning with New Zealand’s child‑wellbeing priorities.
What happened
New Zealand launches a free national parenting platform, Tākai, offering evidence‑based resources for parents, grandparents and caregivers. The initiative, funded by a $20 million investment from the 2025 Budget contingency fund, provides over 900 pages of plain‑language articles, activities, songs and workshop ideas covering pregnancy to age five.
It also hosts webinars and short online lessons featuring Kiwi child‑development experts, including Brainwave Trust, to explain the importance of early experiences and positive parenting. Tākai complements existing programmes such as Triple P and Mellow Parenting, and supports families with the highest needs through the Social Investment Fund.
The platform aims to help children thrive in their first 2000 days and prevent harm.
