Hong Kong Financial Secretary Wraps Up Bangkok Visit, Aims to Strengthen Economic Ties
WHY IT MATTERS
The dialogue underscores Hong Kong’s strategy to act as a bridge for Mainland investment into Thailand, enhancing regional trade, financial integration and industrial collaboration.
What happened
Financial Secretary Paul Chan concluded a day‑long visit to Bangkok after meeting Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas. The two sides discussed ways to deepen economic, trade and financial cooperation, including linking foreign direct investment in Thailand with Hong Kong’s capital market and encouraging dual listings between the two securities markets.
Chan highlighted Hong Kong’s role as an international financial centre, offering investment and financing support to Thai enterprises and matching Mainland China’s technological strengths with Thailand’s industrial needs. He also invited Mr.
Nitithanprapas to the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong next January to further explore regional opportunities. Later, Chan met the CEO of a major French bank, exchanging views on fixed‑income and currency markets, green and sustainable finance, tokenised products, and wealth management, welcoming the bank’s continued expansion in Hong Kong.
