Greece Deploys Frigates and Fighter Jets to Cyprus, Showcasing Military Presence

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis hailed the deployment of Greek frigates and F-16 fighter jets to Cyprus as a 'show of power' on the island. The move, which began in March after an Iranian-made drone hit Cyprus, has seen frigates rotated in and out of Cypriot waters to maintain a constant Greek naval presence. The F-16 fighter jets have remained in Paphos. Gerapetritis emphasized the importance of a strong defense, stating that a country must have a robust defense to cope with global dangers. He also highlighted Greece's strengthening relations with the Gulf countries, India, and the European Union, but stressed that international alliances alone are not enough. Greece's defense has been equipped to acquire a power that is both real and demonstrated through performance, according to Gerapetritis. He noted that the show of power is crucial, citing Greece's provision of defense security in the Gulf countries and its upgraded F-16s in Cyprus as examples.
