Cyprus Pension Reform Remains on Track for 2027
WHY IT MATTERS
The pension reform has the potential to directly benefit over 51,664 low-income pensioners, providing them with increased pension income and a more decent standard of living.
What happened
Cyprus' government has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing pension reform by 2027. The reform aims to provide greater support for low-income pensioners while ensuring the sustainability of the social insurance fund.
Key objectives include increasing pensions and providing special support for low-income pensioners, with over 51,664 people expected to receive increases of more than €100 per month.
The reform also seeks to address 'injustices and distortions' created over the decades, including provisions for periods spent outside the labour market due to care responsibilities, maternity, and disability.
