Greece Denies Redesign of Great Sea Interconnector Cable Route

Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis confirmed on Monday that there are no plans to alter the route of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) cable linking Greece and Cyprus. He said the project will proceed as originally designed, as outlined by relevant ministers. This statement comes after Sunday reports that Greece and France had agreed on a “slight redesign” to avoid the Fethiye‑Kas marine park, a zone declared by Turkey on August 15 south of Kastellorizo. The proposed change was said to prevent Turkey from asserting authority to impose a complete ban on activities in the area. Marinakis denied any such redesign, insisting the original plan remains in force.
