What happened
Ronald Sakolsky, a retired American teacher now 67, returned to Luoyang, Henan province, after 26 years to meet Inner Mongolian farmer Yin Yuzhen. In 1999, Sakolsky donated US$5,000 to support Yin’s efforts to combat desertification.
The once-barren sandy landscape has since transformed into a lush green environment, a forest that grew from the modest donation.
The reunion highlights the long‑term impact of targeted environmental aid and the enduring partnership between the teacher and the farmer.
