Cyprus Sees Higher Growth Than European Average, President Says
WHY IT MATTERS
Cyprus aims to establish itself as a hub of innovation and technology in the region, with a focus on creating quality jobs and turning growth into real benefits for society.
What happened
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides announced on Monday that the country's growth remains higher than the European average. Christodoulides made the statement while presenting the annual innovation and research awards organised by employers' federation OEV and the Research and Innovation Foundation.
He noted that Cyprus has entered category A for the first time since 2011 and has a strong foundation to build on. The president emphasized the need to focus on increasing productivity and competitiveness by investing in knowledge, technology, and high specialisation.
Christodoulides highlighted the contribution of the broader technological sector, which accounts for approximately 15% of the GDP, and the growth of the ecosystem of emerging entrepreneurship. He also mentioned the country's ranking in the StartupBlink list for 2026, where Cyprus ranks 34th worldwide, recording the highest increase in Europe for the third consecutive year.
