Measles Cases in the Americas Surge 3.8‑Fold, Guatemala Leads with 33,334 Cases

The latest PAHO regional situation report shows 52,676 confirmed measles cases across 17 countries in the Americas, a 3.8‑fold rise from the same period in 2025. Guatemala alone reported 33,334 cases, followed by Mexico with 12,848, the United States 3,134, Peru 1,997, and Canada 1,119, accounting for 99.5% of all cases. The region also recorded 61 deaths, 41 in Guatemala, 19 in Mexico, and one in Bolivia. During epidemiological weeks 33 and 34, new cases fell 36.6% compared with weeks 31–32, dropping from 1,436 to 911. Guatemala contributed 350 of the new cases, the United States 303, Peru 171, Mexico 83, and Bolivia and Canada each two. The decline follows a period of intense transmission. The sharp rise in cases and concentrated burden in a few countries underscore the urgency of strengthening vaccination coverage and surveillance.
