UN Secretary‑General Guterres Considers Three‑Way Cyprus Meeting

In New York, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides met UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres and reported that the UN chief is “considering” a trilateral meeting that would include the Turkish‑Cypriot side. Christodoulides said the discussion covered 19 new proposals on substantive issues, methodology and confidence‑building measures, which Guterres received positively. He also confirmed that the UN is working with the European Commission and European Council to advance the Cyprus agenda and that a joint meeting of the two negotiators with the UN Deputy Secretary‑General and Guterres’ Personal Envoy is planned. The president expressed readiness to extend his stay in New York to facilitate the meeting, hoping to restart negotiations before Guterres’ term ends on 31 December.
