Haiti Faces Widespread Food Insecurity Amid Ongoing Violence and Poor Harvests

A recent report by the Famine Early Warning System Network warns that Haiti will experience widespread food insecurity from August 2026 to January 2027. The country's most affected areas, including Port-au-Prince, Cité Soleil, Cornillon, and Ganthier, will continue to face Urgence (Phase 4 of the IPC) conditions. The upcoming harvest season is expected to be limited and short-lived, exacerbating consumption deficits, particularly among internally displaced persons and those living in areas heavily affected by violence. The spring agricultural campaign was below normal, with significant geographical variations, due to factors such as insecurity, limited access to land, and high production costs.
