What happened
On 29 August 2026, armed clashes in Jean Denis, the first municipal section of Bas Coursin I in Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite, forced about 894 people—230 households—to flee. The violence also displaced residents from Grand Berard, Beaufort and Charron in the second municipal section of Fosse Naboth/Duvallon, Dessalines.
Ninety percent of the displaced found refuge with host families, while the remaining ten percent settled in three pre‑existing sites. Most—92 percent—moved to Dessalines, with 8 percent heading to Saint‑Marc.
