Greens foreign‑affairs spokesperson David Shoebridge criticised the Australian government’s $5 million pledge for Nepal’s post‑disaster recovery, saying it falls far short of the country’s needs. Speaking on RN Breakfast, Shoebridge highlighted Nepal’s limited resources and the scale of the calamity, arguing that the aid amount would not meaningfully support affected communities. He linked the shortfall to broader climate commitments, noting that Australia’s failure to curb coal and gas use could exacerbate future disasters. Shoebridge called for a stronger, more comprehensive aid package to help Nepal rebuild and to meet Australia’s carbon‑reduction targets.
