Statistics Canada Launches Residential Mobility Exposome File to Track Environmental Health Risks

Statistics Canada has released the Residential Mobility Exposome File (ReMEF), a new dataset that links individuals’ historical postal codes to annual environmental measures. The file covers three exposure domains—ambient air pollution, built and green environment, and ambient temperature—using data from the Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort for the years 1991, 1996, and 2001. With up to 25 years of follow‑up, ReMEF provides a comprehensive view of how residential moves alter exposure to environmental hazards. The initiative addresses a gap in national data, enabling researchers to examine the health impacts of mobility across multiple environmental contexts.
