Cyprus Braces for Heavy Rain and Storms
WHY IT MATTERS
The heavy rain and storms pose a risk to residents and visitors, particularly in areas prone to flooding, and may impact daily activities and travel plans.
What happened
A low-pressure system from the Ionian Sea is expected to bring significant rain and storms to Cyprus from Wednesday afternoon, lasting until Friday. The rain will initially hit Paphos before spreading to the rest of the island.
The island has already experienced an unusually wet season, with last August being the wettest recorded since 1902.
Until Wednesday, scattered rain is expected, mainly over the Troodos mountains and around Nicosia.
