What happened
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has outlined a plan to expand its benefit packages until 2028, focusing on conditions with high disease burden and financial risk for Filipino patients. The rollout will be based on a health conditions roadmap, with the first phase set to begin in the third quarter of 2026.
The expansion includes benefits for children with developmental disabilities, acute stroke, and palliative and hospice care, among others.
PhilHealth is seeking an additional P170 billion in funding to fully implement the benefit expansion and cover projected insurance claims.
