Hong Kong Climbs to 14th in Global Innovation Index, Eyes I&T Hub

Hong Kong’s Global Innovation Index 2026 ranking improved to 14th worldwide and 5th in Asia, with its Innovation Input score steady at 8th and Innovation Output rising to 21st. The government highlighted the progress as evidence of its priority to accelerate innovation and technology (I&T) development. It reaffirmed its commitment to build an international I&T centre in line with the First Five‑Year Plan, expanding the "three major I&T parks and five key R&D institutions" framework. Plans include advancing AI+ initiatives—enhancing computing infrastructure, supporting SMEs in AI adoption, and empowering sectors with AI technology. Hong Kong will also leverage its proximity to the Mainland and the Greater Bay Area to attract global I&T resources and talent, aiming to establish a Bay‑area‑based I&T hub serving the country and the world by 2030.
