Hong Kong Students Excel in International Assessment

Hong Kong students have excelled in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2025, outperforming international averages in digital learning and core subjects. According to the assessment results, Hong Kong students scored 545 in the innovative domain 'Learning in the Digital World', significantly higher than the international average of 500. In mathematical, scientific, and mother-tongue reading literacy, Hong Kong students scored 522, 496, and 480 respectively, surpassing international averages of 463, 482, and 461. The Education Bureau attributed the outstanding performance to Hong Kong's promotion of STEAM education and vowed to continue focusing on artificial intelligence education. The bureau also emphasized its commitment to educational equity, providing diverse learning activities and comprehensive support for non-Chinese-speaking students. The assessment involved 6,445 15-year-old students from 230 secondary schools, conducted by the University of Hong Kong from May to July 2025. Hong Kong was one of the top-performing education systems globally in the 'Learning in the Digital World' domain, with over 40% of participating students attaining high proficiency levels.
