What happened
New Zealand's government has completed a review of the hospitality sector, identifying several issues that hinder business growth. The review found that businesses face unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles, including having to provide the same information multiple times, dealing with inefficient and disproportionate alcohol licensing processes, and facing high and non-transparent fees.
Additionally, food safety requirements and checks may not be effective, and regulatory barriers affect the provision of transport services. To address these issues, the government plans to simplify the regulatory framework, making it easier and cheaper for businesses to operate.
Ministers will decide which recommendations to accept and implement in the coming weeks.
