Hong Kong Launches 24‑Hour Transport Network for New Huanggang Port
WHY IT MATTERS
The new network enhances cross‑border mobility, reduces congestion at existing points, and supports Hong Kong’s goal of efficient, 24‑hour connectivity for commuters and visitors.
What happened
The Transport Department announced a comprehensive 24‑hour public‑transport system for the newly redeveloped Huanggang Port, set to open next week. Seven franchised bus routes, six green minibus routes and five short‑haul cross‑boundary coach routes will serve the port, with bus routes passing through nine MTR stations and four bus‑bus interchanges to provide seamless rail connections.
Dedicated public‑transport lanes from Fanling Highway and San Tin Highway will bypass San Tin Interchange, improving travel times. Taxi drivers will use a queue‑ticket system at a public‑transport buffer area before proceeding to designated pick‑up points, while fleet‑taxi ambassadors will deploy vehicles dynamically.
The department will monitor demand and adjust services, urging travellers to plan journeys in advance and consider alternative border points during the port’s initial phase.
