Huawei Adds Standalone 1‑inch Camera to Mate 90 Pro Max
WHY IT MATTERS
Huawei’s modular camera gives consumers a tangible upgrade path and sets a new benchmark for phone photography, prompting rivals to rethink how they deliver imaging performance on flagship devices.
What happened
Huawei has released an add‑on teleconverter lens for its Mate 90 Pro Max that is more than just a glass upgrade. The module, named Ruiying Z10, houses a 1‑inch, 50‑megapixel RYYB image sensor that is larger than the phone’s built‑in sensor.
By attaching the lens, users gain a complete overhaul of the camera’s capabilities, offering higher resolution and better low‑light performance than the phone alone could deliver.
This is the first time a Chinese Android manufacturer has supplied a full camera module as an accessory, moving beyond the typical “lens‑only” add‑ons seen from competitors.
