Huawei to Launch Two New AI Chips in 2027

Huawei's move to develop domestic AI chips is part of China's efforts to reduce reliance on US technology and build a more self-sufficient semiconductor industry.
What happened
Huawei Technologies will launch two new artificial-intelligence semiconductors in 2027, according to rotating chairman David Wang. The company plans to release the 960DT in the first quarter and the Ascend 960PR in the third quarter. Huawei is building up its AI computing business and aims to challenge US chipmaker Nvidia.
The company is also working on connecting large numbers of AI chips to work together as one computing system. Huawei's UnifiedBus technology will be a key link in its next generation of large AI systems, allowing chips to share information and work together more efficiently. The company has developed 11 semiconductors based on UnifiedBus technology for use in its large systems.
Huawei's largest linked systems, called superclusters, can support up to one million AI processors. The company has shipped more than 1,000 smaller linked systems, called supernodes, to over 370 customers.
