Hungarian PM Blocks Ukraine Oil Storage Plan on Hungarian Soil

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar declared that plans to build an oil storage facility for Ukraine on Hungarian territory would not proceed while his Tisza Party remains in power. The project, outlined in a memorandum signed by Ukraine’s Naftogaz and Hungarian oil company MOL on September 20, calls for a storage site near the Hungarian‑Ukrainian border to diversify fuel supplies amid Russian attacks. Magyar told parliament that he had informed MOL’s leadership of his opposition and that the state, which owns a 25 % stake in MOL, has not authorized the company to negotiate construction. MOL said the agreement is only preliminary and that preparing the project would take years. Hungarian authorities confirmed that no government approval has been granted.
