Hurricane Trudy Threatens Western Mexico with Heavy Rain and Coastal Flooding
WHY IT MATTERS
The heavy rain and coastal flooding pose a risk to life and property in western Mexico, particularly in areas with steep terrain and exposed coastlines.
What happened
Hurricane Trudy is moving towards Mexico's western coast, with forecasters warning of heavy rain and coastal flooding. The US National Hurricane Centre reports Trudy is about 190 miles south-southeast of Manzanillo, with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph.
The hurricane is expected to bring four to eight inches of rain, with isolated totals of around 15 inches, across parts of Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco.
Tropical storm conditions are expected to spread across the region, and coastal flooding is possible due to storm surge and large waves.
