Starcloud Launches Ambitious Alpha Centauri Probe Initiative

Starcloud, the company that operates orbital data centers, has announced a new high‑risk space project: a probe to Alpha Centauri. The initiative follows the firm’s work on data centers in low Earth orbit, which have already demonstrated the feasibility of space‑based computing. The Alpha Centauri probe would represent the first attempt by a commercial entity to send a spacecraft beyond the solar system. While the project is still in the planning phase and faces significant technical and financial challenges, it signals a shift toward more ambitious interstellar missions. The probe would carry instruments designed to study the nearest star system and test propulsion and communication technologies that could be used for future deep‑space data services.
