WHY IT MATTERS
The death underscores the dangers faced by humanitarian workers in Sudan and highlights the need for protection of those providing lifesaving aid.
What happened
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has expressed deep sadness over the death of Baderaldain Omer Musa Ibrahim, a 33‑year‑old volunteer with the Sudanese Red Crescent (SRCS). Ibrahim was killed on 13 October 2026 while providing first aid at a health centre in the Um Darfa area of Blue Nile State, after a bombing was reported.
He had served with the SRCS Emergency Volunteer Team for six years. The IFRC offered condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, and reminded that attacks on humanitarian personnel are unacceptable.
Since the conflict began on 15 April 2023, SRCS reports 25 volunteers have been killed on duty.
