Hong Kong Forms Steering Committee to Launch IP Academy

The Hong Kong government announced the creation of a Steering Committee on the Intellectual Property Academy Pilot Programme, appointing a chairman, vice‑chairman and members for two‑year terms effective October 1. The committee, composed of government officials, industry experts and cross‑sector professionals, will guide the programme’s design and rollout. The Intellectual Property Department and the Vocational Training Council will run the academy, which is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2026. The academy will offer systematic, recognised on‑the‑job IP training to a broader workforce, aiming to grow Hong Kong’s IP talent pool and strengthen its position as a regional IP trading centre. The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau stressed that talent is essential for sustained growth in the IP ecosystem, and the committee’s role is to ensure training meets industry needs.
