Escalating Hostilities in Iran and Lebanon Worsen Regional Refugee Crisis

Hostilities in Iran and Lebanon since late February 2026 have caused significant harm to civilians and generated humanitarian consequences across the region. The conflict has resulted in continued reports of attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including in Yemen. The region already had over 31 million forcibly displaced people and recent returnees, with host communities facing economic and social pressures. Inter-agency emergency response efforts are underway in directly affected countries, with UNHCR and partners focusing on the consequences of the situation, including returns under adverse circumstances and economic deterioration. Preparedness arrangements remain in place, but depend on flexible and predictable funding in a constrained resource environment.
