Hong Kong Alliance Founders Sentenced for National Security Law Violations

The Court of First Instance in Hong Kong has handed down sentences against the now-defunct Hong Kong Alliance and related figures. Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung stated that the ruling manifests justice and safeguards the city's core values. The court convicted the defendants solely for unlawful acts committed during the charge period, not for their political ideology or words prior to the enactment of the Hong Kong National Security Law. The sentence highlighted six reasons why the case was of a serious nature, including the defendants' intent to sow hatred against the Communist Party of China and incite others to subvert state power. The Hong Kong SAR Government will continue to prevent, suppress, and punish acts endangering national security in accordance with the law.
