KFC launches ‘Open House’ test‑restaurant in Texas to modernize while keeping classic chicken
WHY IT MATTERS
KFC’s test could reshape its national strategy, showing how a legacy brand can blend nostalgia with modern dining trends.
What happened
KFC has opened a new test‑restaurant in McKinney, Texas, called Open House, to experiment with a modern dining experience that still centers on its classic fried chicken. The 75‑year‑old chain is testing Art‑Deco and mid‑century modern décor, large glass windows, digital ordering kiosks and a drive‑thru, while also offering lobby hosts, table service, booths and outdoor seating to encourage social dining. The menu keeps the original recipe bucket but adds tenders, wings, sandwiches, wraps, nuggets, new sauces, drinks, snacks, sweets and sides, and will run from 6 a.
m. to midnight to try breakfast and late‑night service. KFC U.
S. President Catherine Tan‑Gillespie says the experiment will determine which new dayparts and formats can be scaled nationwide.
