Andorra and EU Agree on Association, Cyprus Supports

Cyprus' Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos met with Andorran counterpart Imma Tor Faus on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. They discussed the progress of Andorra's relations with the European Union, specifically the association agreement approved by the Council of the EU in July. The agreement allows Andorra to participate in the EU's internal market under equal conditions, with progressive access to financial services pending a successful audit of their regulatory frameworks. The EU will also monitor these frameworks. The agreement establishes a framework for dialogue and cooperation in areas such as research, education, and the environment. Irish European Affairs Minister Thomas Byrne described the agreement as paving the way for a stronger, mutually beneficial partnership. The agreement is expected to be formally signed on October 19. Kombos and Tor Faus also discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Cyprus and Andorra, as well as cooperation in regional and multilateral fora.
