What happened
The captain and eight crew members of a ferry that sank off the coast of Kyrenia have been arrested. Turkish Cypriot 'prime minister' Unal Ustel described the incident as 'the worst maritime disaster Cyprus has ever experienced.
' Eight confirmed deaths have been reported, and 17 people remain unaccounted for. Authorities have mobilized all available resources, including coastguard boats, diving teams, and aircraft, to search for survivors and uncover the truth.
A Turkish navy search and rescue vessel is expected to arrive to aid in the search, which will expand to the sea floor.
