Chase Points Holders Face 33% More Cost to Transfer to Hyatt After Oct. 1
WHY IT MATTERS
The upcoming ratio shift could cost frequent Hyatt travelers 33% more Chase points, affecting travel budgeting and loyalty program strategy.
What happened
Chase credit card holders with a 1:1 transfer ratio to Hyatt will see that ratio shift to 4:3 on Oct. 1, meaning 33% more Chase points will be needed for the same Hyatt points. The change affects those who opened a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card before June 15 and Ink Business Preferred® Card holders.
Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Reserve for Business℠ cards keep the 1:1 ratio, so no action is required for those accounts. Cardholders who regularly redeem with Hyatt or have a planned redemption within the next 18–24 months should consider transferring points now to lock in the better rate.
Those with no imminent Hyatt plans are advised to hold off, as Chase points remain more flexible before the ratio change. The decision hinges on whether a user has a concrete Hyatt usage plan or prefers to keep points versatile.
