Lebanon's Health System Continues to Struggle Amid Ongoing Challenges

The ongoing challenges in Lebanon's health system highlight the need for sustained support to preserve access to critical services and advance emergency preparedness, stabilization, and restoration of essential health system functions, ultimately affecting the health and well-being of the population, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and adolescents.
What happened
Lebanon's health system is facing significant pressure due to insecurity, population movements, access restrictions, damaged infrastructure, and resource limitations. Despite efforts to maintain service continuity, 21 Primary Health Care Centers and 3 hospitals remain closed in conflict-affected areas.
The Ministry of Public Health has reopened its center in Tyre, restoring essential TB services, and Tebnin Governmental Hospital has resumed maternity services. However, two hospitals in Bint Jbeil District remain unable to resume vital maternity services.
Partners continue to provide PHCCs and hospitals with essential medicines and medical supplies, and vaccination delivery has improved with a 19% increase in children vaccinated and a 22% increase in doses administered compared to the first quarter.
