Libya Sees Slight Rise in Migrant Numbers Amid Ongoing Sudan Conflict

During the May–June 2026 reporting period, the International Organization for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix recorded 950,004 migrants in Libya, a marginal rise of less than 1 percent from the 943,748 identified in March–April 2026. The figure reflects the seasonal uptick in mobility that typically precedes the summer peak. Over the longer term, Libya’s migrant population has grown 35 percent since April 2023, when 705,746 migrants were logged, a rise that coincides with the start of the Sudanese conflict. The current landscape is shaped by enduring seasonal and economic mobility patterns, as well as conflict‑driven flows that have altered the composition and scale of migration in the country.
