HK EMSD to Inspect All Taizoom Lifts After Deficiencies Found
WHY IT MATTERS
The findings raise safety and regulatory concerns for residents and highlight the need for stringent oversight of lift works in public housing estates.
What happened
The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) discovered serious deficiencies in lift replacement works carried out by Taizoom Elevator Company (HK) in two Tenants Purchase Scheme estates. Nine lifts in Tsui Ping (North) Estate and 39 lifts in Pok Hong Estate were found to lack required door frame components, despite fire‑resistant doors being installed and certificates submitted.
EMSD has ordered Taizoom to install the missing components at its own expense, with repairs expected within a month. Lifts will be temporarily suspended during installation, scheduled for non‑peak hours.
EMSD will inspect all Taizoom‑installed lifts citywide within three days and may take enforcement action under the Lifts & Escalators Ordinance. The Housing Authority has expressed concern and is monitoring the situation.
