Lino Cayetano Named Sixth Presidential Communications Chief in Marcos Administration
WHY IT MATTERS
The appointment signals continued reshuffling of Marcos’s communications strategy amid political scrutiny, affecting how the administration conveys policies and manages media relations.
What happened
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on Sunday, October 11 that Lino Cayetano, the general manager of People’s Television Network (PTV), will become the sixth secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO). Cayetano replaces Dave Gomez, who was bypassed by the Commission on Appointments.
The PCO coordinates the executive branch’s messaging, including policy announcements and media relations. Cayetano, a former television director and former Taguig mayor, was appointed PTV general manager in June 2026.
He is the younger brother of senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, who have publicly criticized the Marcos administration. The PCO has seen frequent leadership changes since 2022, with previous chiefs including Trixie Cruz‑Angeles, Cheloy Garafil, Cesar Chavez, Jay Ruiz and Gomez.
