Hong Kong Opens Applications for All 13 Light Public Housing Projects
WHY IT MATTERS
The rapid completion of 30,000 LPH units offers a significant boost to Hong Kong’s affordable housing supply, addressing urgent needs for low‑income families and easing pressure on the public rental market.
What happened
The Housing Bureau announced that applications for all 13 Light Public Housing (LPH) projects are now open, offering a total of 30,000 units across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. The final two projects—converted from school premises on Shun Lee Tsuen Road in Kwun Tong and Chuk Yuen Road in Wong Tai Sin—will add about 210 units and are slated for completion in the first quarter of next year, marking the full completion of the LPH programme.
Eligible applicants will receive forms by post in batches starting today; applications submitted on or before November 6 will receive priority. The Bureau noted that more than 44,900 applications had been received by late September, and several projects have already reached full intake.
Completed units will be reallocated to families with urgent housing needs as residents move into traditional public rental housing. The Housing Bureau aims to finish all 30,000 units by the end of March next year, beating the original five‑year target set in the 2022 Policy Address.
