Mali Food Security Outlook: Emergency Conditions Persist in Kidal and Ménaka

In Mali, the food security outlook remains dire in Kidal and Ménaka regions due to ongoing insecurity. Emergency (IPC Phase 4) outcomes are expected to persist in Kidal through January 2027, while Ménaka is expected to improve to Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes in October. The decline in cereal crop and cotton production is attributed to insufficient rainfall, limited access to inputs, and insecurity. Despite ongoing agricultural labor activities providing some income and food opportunities, households in insecure areas will rely on coping strategies to meet their needs. The availability of harvests and seasonal price decline will improve food access in the south and west, but conflict-affected areas will struggle with deteriorating livelihoods and persistent disruptions.
