NASA's Perseverance Rover Discovers Ancient Martian Terrain

NASA's Mars Perseverance rover has been exploring the 'Lac de Charmes' area, an ancient region of valleys and ridges west of the Jezero crater rim. The rover has created 13 abrasion patches on rocks, providing a wealth of scientific data. Investigations suggest that many of the rocks formed from cooled lava or magma, while others formed in the aftermath of a violent impact. The rover has also discovered a region nicknamed 'Idubi,' where hundreds of light-toned boulders were spotted. Perseverance has stopped to investigate an interesting outcrop named 'Gardenia,' which could be a breccia, a rock comprised of fragments of many older rocks.
