Mozambique Faces Supply Chain Strain as Donor Cuts Cut Procurement and Staffing

Mozambique’s public health supply chain, built on a partnership between the Ministry of Health, international donors, and local and international organizations, is now under pressure. External partners have historically supplied funding, technical expertise, and support for quantification, forecasting, and logistics planning, while the Ministry has been expanding its own capacities. Recent cuts in donor financing have already reduced procurement budgets, eliminated technical assistance posts, and lowered staff salaries across the procurement‑to‑delivery chain. The Ministry and partners are actively working to manage these constraints. An advocacy paper released by the Health Cluster and the World Health Organization outlines the current situation and upcoming challenges, urging collaborative efforts to identify and implement solutions that will safeguard the country’s medical supply chain.
