Nigeria Declares Medical Diagnostics a Strategic National Asset

In Abuja on Wednesday, Dr. Iziaq Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, announced that the Federal Government views medical diagnostics as a strategic national asset. He called for a concerted effort to strengthen local production, improve quality assurance, and develop the domestic market for diagnostic products. The aim is to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported diagnostics. Salako’s remarks coincided with the opening of the 28th Scientific Conference, underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering the country’s health security infrastructure. By prioritising local manufacturing and regulatory standards, the administration seeks to enhance the reliability and accessibility of diagnostic services across the nation.
