Cyprus Schools to Get Air Conditioners by End of 2026

The timely completion of air conditioner installations in Cyprus schools will ensure better and safer learning conditions for students and teachers, addressing a perennial problem that has plagued the education system for decades.
What happened
The Cyprus House education committee, educational organisations, parent associations, and the Pan-Cyprian Student Co-ordinating Committee (Psem) have requested a strict timetable for the installation and operation of air conditioners in all schools. Despite progress made, some schools still suffer from high temperatures, and installed air conditioners remain unused.
The education ministry has assured that priority will be given to high schools and middle schools, with elementary schools and kindergartens to follow. A manual guides the installation process, and the EAC has inspected 142 out of 219 applications for air conditioning installations.
The finance ministry has confirmed that necessary funds are available, with €5 million allocated for 2026 and €10 million for 2027, pending budget approval.
