Millions in Syria Struggle to Access Safe Water

Millions of people in Syria continue to face challenges in accessing safe water and sanitation, despite efforts by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to improve water access. Fourteen years of conflict have left many families without reliable water systems, proper sanitation, or safe waste disposal. MSF has implemented water supply projects in areas covered by its mobile clinics, benefiting approximately 50,000 people. In rural Aleppo, MSF supports two boreholes with solar-powered pumping systems to improve water access for returning communities. Flooding in the northeast has put pressure on already fragile water systems, with MSF teams rehabilitating damaged water stations and supplying water by truck to displaced people. Safe water and sanitation are essential for patient care, infection prevention, and reducing disease risks. MSF has also installed latrines and showers in displacement sites and supports water needs at Nawa Hospital.
