Displacement and Militarization in Myanmar's Dooplaya District
WHY IT MATTERS
The ongoing displacement and militarization in Dooplaya District have significant humanitarian implications, affecting the livelihoods and well-being of local villagers.
What happened
In Myanmar's Dooplaya District, displacement and militarization have continued to affect villagers in Kaw T'Ree and Ra M'Tee townships. From January to May 2026, the Burma Army carried out drone strikes, air strikes, and shelling, forcing many villagers to flee their homes. In Kaw T'Ree Township, villagers from Maw Ma, Kaw Nweh, and Aaw Hpa Hpa Doh village tracts were unable to return to their villages due to security risks.
In Ra M'Tee Township, villagers from Noh Poe and P'Loo village tracts also fled due to air strikes and shelling. The Burma Army's actions have disrupted livelihoods and education in the area, with some students studying in displacement sites. Township leaders and police have attempted to address drug issues, but the problem persists.
Villagers face challenges traveling to Kaw T'Ree Town due to security risks. The situation remains volatile, with ongoing fighting and displacement affecting the local population.
