Mars‑Derived Carbon Capture Tech Turns Breweries into Carbon‑Smart Operations

NASA’s pioneering Martian resource‑harvesting systems, originally designed to extract CO₂ from the Red Planet’s thin atmosphere, have been repurposed for Earth‑based industries. Pioneer Astronautics’ compact, automated CO₂ capture units were adapted by Earthly Labs, a Texas startup, to recover and purify carbon dioxide from brewing processes. The resulting Craft Brewery Recovery System, licensed in 2015, allows breweries to recycle CO₂ for carbonation, reducing reliance on external supplies that have become scarce and volatile—especially during the pandemic. The technology has since expanded to wineries, distilleries, power plants, and helium‑production facilities, helping companies lower emissions and cut operating costs. Earthly Labs’ partnership with Chart Industries has scaled the system for larger commercial use, demonstrating how space‑derived innovations can address terrestrial resource challenges.
